Vintage Sci-Fi Book Reviews | The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury

Warning! There are some small spoilers in this video! Please proceed with caution. :3

I read this book for Vintage Sci-Fi Month and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it! I gave this one 5 stars and highly recommend it.

The book I’m reviewing here is The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury:

I did a buddy read for this with Kelsy from kelsyfish:

I’m so glad you liked it! I’ve been waiting for your review since I saw it in the previous video. It received five stars from me and is on my top reads this far list. If you liked this I would recommend The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula le Guin and Childhood’s End by Clarke

Sylvia Nguyen says:

I looooved this book! Your review compells me to reread it. It was hard not to tab everything in it, too!

Immediately after I finished this, I went and bought The Illustrated Man in those editions. Haven’t read that one, yet.

dorkabrain says:

I paused this book immediately because of the spoilers. I just wanted to point out the coincidence that I very randomly picked this book up at Powell’s after our hanging out. That is all. I will hopefully remember to come back to this video once I eventually read it 😀

Literally Graphic says:

Kudos on a very well articulated review. The Martian Chronicles is By far my favorite Bradbury and probably my favorite science fiction book in general. It makes me sad every time I realize there are some people in this world who have not read it!

Noiseless Madman says:

Great review! The Martian Chronicles is an awesome read! Glad I stumbled upon your channel. I subbed. :-)

Coen Vazquez says:

YAAAAASSS!!! I loved your review on this – seems like we had a very similar journey reading this book. Haha. I loved your comment about imagining a group of hipsters on Mars with their little typewriters. Hilarious. But yeah… that one chapter that was super sad…. that one kept me up a few times because I couldn’t stop thinking about how that must have felt/been. Glad you enjoyed the book – it’s easily one of my favorites. :)

Amanda Center says:

I love Bradbury. I’ll really have to get on reading this, though I’ve heard the ending isn’t satisfying. What are your thoughts? In either case I’ll read it someday :)

Bitten by a radioactive book says:

Oh, that sounds definitely interesting. Thanks for bringing this book onto my radar again. :) I think I want to read about a lonely smart house.

Paula Baker says:

I just finished the audiobook this morning. I agree with a lot of what you said. I felt a range of emotions throughout this book. There were times when I was near tears and times when I laughed out loud. Like you, I was surprised so much of this book is relevant today. I went in underestimating this novel and I was completely blown away. This was my first Bradbury novel and my first sci-fi novel. My husband recommended a few vintage sci fi authors to check out: Alfred Bester, Harlan Ellison (wrote some episodes for Twilight Zone and one of his stories inspired The Terminator), Robert Heinlein (wrote Starship Troopers), and Issac Asimov(wrote I, Robot). I apologize if others have mentioned these. I’m going to go down this rabbit hole to read more of the aforementioned sci-fi authors as well as Mr. Bradbury. By the way, are you planning to do any more vintage sci-fi reviews? This one was great.

David Duran says:

This is my favorite book, timeless and so bold and accurate is incredible

Free Book Club TV says:

I have heard so much about this lately. I didn’t finish the video because I didn’t want to get spoiled!! How was the book compared to the movie?

kelsyfish says:

I completely agree with the relatability point! I think that’s the main reason why I hadn’t picked up this one or the Asimov books I have. Part of me feels like since they are from such a long time ago, what could they possibly have to say to me now? But I guess that’s why they are so enduring! Reading this definitely made me want to read some more vintage scifi. :)

I don’t usually comment on videos. However, I think you deserve it. I am currently writing an essay on “The Martian Chronicles” so I’ve been recently reading a lot about the book and watching videos on it as well. I would like to say this is the one that has standed out. What also motivates me to write this is the fact you own a relatively small channel, and you will surely read and appreciate my opinion on your video, and I’d love people to comment on my videos if i was in your place. I believe you stand out from other reviewers mostly because you seem real. Unlike many other youtubers/content generators, you seem to leap out of the screen, and this is highly appreciated in an empty, appearance-based world.
Keep on making fantastic videos!
