From plot debriefs to key motifs, Thug Notes’ The Great Gatsby Summary & Analysis has you covered with themes, symbols, important quotes, and more. First published in 1925, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel sold poorly – and he died in 1940 believing to be a failure and his work forgotten. Today, it is considered to be a literary classic. so we beat on. Boats against the current borne back ceaselessly into the past. this is one of my favorite quotes. It sums up a lot of the book. The quote reveals that no matter how hard we try we will never be much greater than the station we were born into. It shows that Gatsby’s efforts were in vain.

Kane Jones says:

I thought that Daisy had an idea that Tom be cheatin’, it seems that way in the novel.
