So many great books! Shards of Honor, Hyperion, The Left Hand of Darkness, and Leviathan Wakes, are all books that I would especially recommend. Great to see some more science fiction love 🙂
Sci-fi book covers never fail to make me smile (and cringe) XD
Hyperion! 🙂 I’m sure you’ll love it too.
And yay~ for old school cheesy scifi covers. Those are the best.
“The CasUal Angel” haha sorry I had to laugh, I used to make the same mistake when I said that title.
I’ve gottta say, it’s pretty balsy to buy the third book of a trilogy if you haven’t had a chance to read the first book… You might not like it at all. :-/ I sure hope you do tho since I absolutely adore this trilogy. But hey, risky move!
What a haul! Way to rock Otavio. I’m so excited for you to read Seveneves. Also, I love the cover of your copy of The Female Man. AH! Lock In! Also, The Causal Angel. I’m just so excited for you!
Yay, happy to see some sci-fi love on booktube! Even though I’m a year late to this video. :3
We all have problems when comes to book Otavio! You are not alone =P
So many books!
I just read Otherland Volume 1 by Tad Williams and it’s my first “hardcore” science fiction book. I’ve read The Martian, but I feel that was a bit different and easier. I enjoyed it, but some of it felt really overwhelming. Perhaps because I’m new to it? Not sure. I’m going to continue, but might need a breather. Anyways, your books. Also intimidated by Seveneves because the science is very intense. Your covers are awesomely weird and I LOVE THEM. James SA Corey always comes pretty high recommended, so need to add him. Fun haul Otavio!
Lord of Light and Hyperion were the first Sci Fi books I ever read. Loved both and Lord of Light is probably my all time favorite. Hope you enjoy them.
Lots of good stuff! Leviathan Wakes is long, but it’s a fairly quick read. The chapters are super short so you tend to fly through it!
I loved all the sci fi books! I can’t wait to read Seveneves but there is a waiting list for it at my library. Scalzi is a great author! I’ve read Lock in and old man’s war. I follow him on twitter and he is a hoot. You also have a ton of good books on the bookshelf behind you.
What a collection of SF books. Most of these are already on my to-read/to-buy list. Pronouncing author names is something I dreaded the first few hauls I did but now look forward to as I find it a kind of personal challenge to try to say them and actually make sense.
YES! Shards of Honour 😀 Glad Rachel’s video was helpful!
I’m looking forward to reading Hyperion as well before the end of the year. Oh yeah, The Left Hand of Darkness! I’m going to re-read it soon. I’m curious to see what you think. I actually can’t wait to read it. I know it’s going to be one of those books I will re-read always.
Ah, that dammit at the end. It is so perfect! Sometimes author names are really hard.
Good luck with all this Science Fiction! I haven’t read much of it myself, so I think I may actively try to pick up more
Lock In is a quite interesting novel. I didn’t enjoy it as much as I enjoyed Fuzzy Nation, but it was still a fun read.
And dear god, that Niven cover is atrocious
I pronounce Dan Simmons the same way you did the first time. I have that book too, unread =/ …
Wow that Niven cover was eye opening xD
Hyperion!!!! I’m always excited to see it in a book haul :]
Hyperion is wonderful!! It’s like Canterbury Tales but with scifi / space opera added in. The Left Hand of Darkness is one of my all time favorites, and Word for World is Forrest is a little depressing but also great. Le Guin is one of my favorite authors. If you like Stephenson, and tech based scifi, also look into Snowcrash. I’m going to have to stop listing the books I love, because you’ve picked up a lot of my scifi favorites! Subscribed 🙂
This was a really awesome book haul! I really want to give Lock In a read, it sounds really interesting. Also I am loving your bookshelf, I couldn’t stop admiring some of the books you have.
The Word for World is Forest. Thank you for reminding me. I read that many years ago. The Female Man? Have you read some of the Edmund Cooper dystopian stories? Who Needs Men – It’s worth a read.
I am ecstatic about this haul – you have so many amazing books I loved!! Bujold, Le Guin, Zelazny, Stephenson, Simmons, Scalzi, Rajaniemi… I am so excited for you! Have Spacesuit-Will Travel is the Heinlein book I want to read just based on the title.
