Congratulations on finishing your MA! This was a really interesting video! I just started my MA and I have two seminars about women and feminism in the 18th and 19th century and your video made me even more excited about them!

Muhammad Fahad says:

I have recently got admission is undergraduate English degree, but the study of literature and the notes given by the teacher seems to be on the very surface level. While I want to pursue the degree deeply. What advice would you give to me?

Susan Oxburgh says:

This is so interesting! I’m doing my MA in history of art at York and I usually stick to 19th century but I’ve ended up doing an 18th century module, and I’m really enjoying it – it’s really helpful to hear about it from the literature side

ReadsWithARavenclaw says:

Great video! I’ve just started my undergrad degree in English and whilst I’m loving it so far, I feel so unprepared as we’re constantly moving from text to text every week or so and I just don’t feel like I have time to know the texts in depth. Do you have any advice or tips? X

Jamie Dianne says:

I’m so excited that you made this video! I’m obsessed with the 18th Century as a time period, it’s just so simultaneously weird and wonderful. I wish somebody would make a film adaptation of Evelina! There are SO MANY hilarious and bizarre scenes that are stuck in my memory after reading that book. (Especially the scene with the monkey in the drawing room) I’m definitely going to pick up some of the other texts you mentioned.
(Also, I love your new bookshelves in the background! 😀 )

Eleanor Walker says:

I read Northanger this year and I think it was the first time I fully appreciated Jane’s sense of humour… it’s not my favourite work of hers but I feel like it’ll make me look at her other novels in a different way when I re-read them!

steady bloke says:

Accent clues- glottal stops, West Country, private school? Or South Coast- Brighton?

Angela M says:

What a wonderful video, it appears that you chose a very interesting topic to focus on for your MA. Did you find it hard to balance your work life and personal life during your MA at all, I am doing a MA in education at the moment and I find it hard to give anytime to my social life (although I am a bit of a stress head)!

Bushra Hashem says:

Congratulations! I absolutely loved this video! I am not really interested in 18th century but of course i had to study it to some extent in my undergrad course work, but the passion you talk with made me really intrigued 😀 I love Jane Austen of course, but that’s about it when it come to 18th century for me. Your area of focus is really interesting :)

Örn Leifsson says:

What exactly is a module ? – is it another name for a course or a collection of courses ?

Dru H says:

Congrats on your MA! Also, just curious – were you traveling back and forth from London to York to finish your MA, or did you finish it all while living in York?

Sandra Reiss says:

This was a fantastic video…what a great teacher!

The Hook says:

Very interesting! I’ve been subscribed for a long time, and it seems like you’re really thriving! Happy to see that! Thanks for the post! :)
