Great review! I picked up a Dutch copy of this book at a library sale. It’s good to know about it being more ‘safe’, it helps me to know what sort of book to expect, before going into it :). LOL I was so wondering what your T-shirt said!
I loved Cornelia Funke’s Inkheart trilogy back in the day! Ah good times, good times. I’ve always eyed this one up, as “dragon” is definitely a buzzword for me lol. Just checked, the audiobook is on Scribd, added it to my list! 🙂
Loved Dragon Rider as a kid. Great fantasy story. It led me to pick up Inkheart when that came out. Loved that book as well but I just could not get though the rest of that trilogy.
This is one of my favorite books from when I was a child, in German, that is. Must’ve been around 10 years old back then. I still enjoy it as an adult, but I definitely see that it probably won’t be as engaging to adults who’ve never read it, unless they happen to be fond of stories geared towards younger readers.
I agree that Twigleg is one of the best characters in the book, and he is one that has stuck with me the most, even after all these years, and probably greatly influenced my taste in characters, to be honest.
I think the story is fine the way it is, but you could easily see Twigleg himself maybe fitting in perfectly with a more mature version of the tale too, and I think that’s what makes him stand out. The book almost feels like his story more than anyone else’s sometimes, because his emotional journey makes up such a major part of it.
I found myself not enjoying the sequels as much, probably because I’m older now, but they’re still fine, and probably perfect for kids who are the intended age group in the present day. I’m interested to see where the franchise goes from here ^^
I’ve been looking for a new read (getting bored of what I’ve been reading), and maybe I’ll check this out! Great video! Also I think the author’s last name is pronounced Fyune-Kay.
Oh god, this is so nostalgic, I loved this as a kid! It was sooo thrilling at that time, I always imagined I am riding the dragon and all that. Thank you for letting me know there is a sequel, I have to read that! :))
Dragonrider is one of my childhood favourites, so nostalgic!
