Maddie says:

I have some William Gibson books to buy, and this definitely made me more excited to read his books!

Leanne Rose says:

I bought The Book of Phoenix recently and am very excited to haul it and read it! I’ve heard nothing but amazing things :)

tarabyt3 says:

I do need to read Natural History of Dragons at some point… The Book of Phoenix sounds phenomenal and I hadn’t heard of it! …So many good books and stories to read. Thank you!

Simon Doig says:

I love the call out for Neuromancer, I love that book and all the other stories set in The Sprawl. As well as the wonderful writing style the depth of imagination is breathtaking, the internet and virtual reality were basically invented in these stories. Like all great Sci fi so ahead of it’s time.

Kristen at LilyPadRevivals says:

I wanted to love Natural History of Dragons but it just never hooked me ☹️

Yesica1993 says:

I’ve been wanting to read some William Gibson. This may be it!

I was disappointed by the Marie Brennan book. I expected way more dragons!

Sara Maro says:

I noticed a natural history of dragons was on sale in the us kindle store today for $3 so I picked it up because of this video! Can’t wait to dive in!!

Struggling Writer says:

you know I just realized you might like the book ‘there and back again’  a mostly gender flip sci fi story of the hobbit. its pretty awesome.http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/there-and-back-again-pat-murphy/1003529540?ean=9780812541724

David Jerome says:

Wow! This chick is amazing because I have read everything she just mentioned, with the exception of Ody-c, and these are all great suggestions, and really, they’re books you’ll be glad you read.

Keep in mind that I am a geezer rock-n-roll zombie from before personal computers and mobile phones, but my top five science fiction and fantasy are: Necromancer, anything of the discworld series by Sir Pratchett, Childhood’s End, Slaughterhouse Five, and Ancillary Justice.

bustin89 says:

I used to hate reading until I found an amazing series called the sword of truth. It’s what got me into reading and I think you would like the moral teachings as well. Alot of it is about being selfless and thinking about the consequences of even well intended actions. It has really strong female characters and shows the beauty of faithfulness to your loved ones. On top of all that there is alot of action and incredible battles with magic and mystical creatures. Not even sure you’ll read this but it’s worth a try.

ABibliophilesJourney says:

Your energy when talking about all of these books makes me want to read all of them ASAP. I have the first three in the natural history of dragons series and can’t wait to marathon them!

Steven Dealtry says:

Need to read Neuromancer, sounds amazing.

Natasha Poltorak says:

Never thought sci-fi or fantasy was for me but you’ve got me excited to check all 5 of these out!

Leah V says:

This really is such a hard thing to figure out! My list also always changes, and I would totally have Ancillary on here as well, but it isn’t the series which had the biggest impact on me. Just made me fall deeply in love with it. I still need to read Neuromancer! And I’m thinking about adding Ody-c because of you!
I think my 5 would be:
5. Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury – <3
4. The Chrysalids by John Wyndham – <3
3. The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. LeGuin – <3
2. The Hobbit – The book that got me reading.
1. Beggars in Spain by Nancy Kress – It was the first book my boss recommended to me, I asked for her to introduce me to a good female character in a science fiction world, and that’s exactly what I got.

mentatphilosopher says:

I prefer Gibson’s prose style starting with All of Tomorrow’s Parties. It is harder to read quickly but is sharper in conveying multilayered ideas. I now find the writing in Neuromancer in comparison reminiscent of the kind of space opera writing of Asimov and his contemporaries.

creepy creatures reviews says:

“Skin in the game” sounds great. What a pitty that it’s only available in English.

inkyspyglass says:

Great video! I appreciate that you called out works that “blur the line” between scifi and fantasy. (I tentatively use air quotes in my comment because I’ve never found it useful to have a line at all between scifi and fantasy.)

FinalBlowJoe says:

Top 5 children is the easier list to make; just go by the most noisy to least.
I’ve only read Neuromancer so far but will read several more ventually; especially the Marie Brennan books.
