Kara Middleton says:

This is a perfect topic for me. I want to get into science fiction but I am literally scared of it. I’m going to read Never Let Me Go and Becky Chambers and will listen to Sleeping Giants. If I like these, I might pick up the others. Thanks!

GreenslushBoxx / says:

I wonder if its a regional preference for The many selves of Katherine North compared to The many lives of Katherine North?

Don't Have a Degree in Reading says:

How did you end up liking Only Human? I listened to the first 30 minutes or so as I was dozing off on a plane and I remember not liking where the story had gone.

Liz Schubert says:

I love Never Let Me Go. I remember reading it for a local book club meeting and someone saying it was science fiction and my shocked reaction… ‘oh, maybe I DO like science fiction!’

Sarai Talks Books says:

I’ve heard so many good things about Sleeping Giants! Sadly my library doesn’t have the audiobook but I hope to read it eventually :)

ARRRGH! Schooling says:

I loved Long Way to a Small Angry Planet. I immediately bought the sequel, but haven’t had a chance to read it yet. If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend the Chaos Walking Trilogy by Patrick Ness and the Arc of the Scythe series by Neal Shusterman (currently just 2 books but I believe it is going to be a trilogy). Both are technically YA, but neither feel like it – no teen romance, no super angsty characters, no “chosen one” or anything like that. But both deal with really interesting premises and ask some pretty big questions. Both series are technically sci-fi, but not hard-core sci-fi.

I loved The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet, the 2nd book, not so much :/
I’m read a lot a of sci-fi. Here are a few stand alone novels that you might enjoy. Nany Kress is a favorite author of mine, her “After the Fall, Before the Fall, During the Fall” is good. “The Borrowed Man” by Gene Wolfe or “A Calculated Life” by Anne Charnok. For a great Space Opera series, I would highly recommend Anne Leckie’s Imperial Radch series. It starts with “Ancillary Justice”.
It’s not aliens & killer robots, but can recommend a few of those too 😀 Happy reading.

A Girl and a Book says:

I would recommend John Scalzi…I read Old Man’s War earlier this year and loved it! Super easy to read and get into and it moves really quickly. It wasn’t a 5 star read for me, but it was still super fun!

Six Minutes For Me says:

Never Let Me Go Was superb! The science fiction was so well integrated and I did not see it coming! I did find the film super creepy though (probably means they captured the essence of it all well!)

Leighanne's Lit says:

Angry Planet was one of my favorite books I read last year! So character driven and just all around amazing! I haven’t read anything else on this list but thank you for the suggestions!
