“Tools Of The Titans” Book Review

I’ve read this book a while ago (actually in 2016) but I’ve never got a chance to do a book review about it.

Tools Of The Titans is a wonderful book and I’ve learnt a lot from it.

Here is the book description extracted from Amazon:
“”For the last two years, I’ve interviewed more than 200 world-class performers for my podcast, The Tim Ferriss Show. The guests range from super celebs (Jamie Foxx, Arnold Schwarzenegger, etc.) and athletes (icons of powerlifting, gymnastics, surfing, etc.) to legendary Special Operations commanders and black-market biochemists. For most of my guests, it’s the first time they’ve agreed to a two-to-three-hour interview. This unusual depth has helped make The Tim Ferriss Show the first business/interview podcast to pass 100 million downloads.

“This book contains the distilled tools, tactics, and ‘inside baseball’ you won’t find anywhere else. It also includes new tips from past guests, and life lessons from new ‘guests’ you haven’t met.

“What makes the show different is a relentless focus on actionable details. This is reflected in the questions. For example: What do these people do in the first sixty minutes of each morning? What do their workout routines look like, and why? What books have they gifted most to other people? What are the biggest wastes of time for novices in their field? What supplements do they take on a daily basis?

“I don’t view myself as an interviewer. I view myself as an experimenter. If I can’t test something and replicate results in the messy reality of everyday life, I’m not interested.

“Everything within these pages has been vetted, explored, and applied to my own life in some fashion. I’ve used dozens of the tactics and philosophies in high-stakes negotiations, high-risk environments, or large business dealings. The lessons have made me millions of dollars and saved me years of wasted effort and frustration.

“I created this book, my ultimate notebook of high-leverage tools, for myself. It’s changed my life, and I hope the same for you.”

Akuma Studies says:

Some of the stuff in the book is very important. The bits about security inspired me to get a password manager and diversify my passwords. Some of the things in the book also inspired me to drop out of college. Good mindsets, actionable advice and wise stories.

cybersphere says:

Already ordered my copy from the book depository.

Great book!

Chris Pietschmann says:

I’ve been debating getting this book. I’ve switched almost all my reading to using Audible; mostly at 3x speed too! I was disappointed to see there isn’t an audio version available yet. After hearing your review on Tools of Titans I think I’ve been tipped over the edge and will just read this one. Thanks John!

Domini Gai says:

I’d like to claim 1st…

Thomas Sawyer says:

I agree. I’m a listener of his podcast and I found the book quite enjoyable to read. Very insightful stuff in there.

P.S.: One minor thing, you got the name wrong (Tools *OF* Titans).

Paul Garcia says:

What section of the book do you recommend reading?

Random Bike Trips says:

John, are you familiar with the “digital nomad” lifestyle? What’s your opinion on this? Do you think this is the future of the workforce — especially with all of these freelancers doing the whole “location independence” thing? Do you think the conventional 9-5 is on its on way out?

Andrew G Leong says:

Completely off topic, but I just scrolled to your first videos and you look so different now. You look younger to be honest. Also, thanks for the view on the book. I was debating on whether to buy it or not.

Paul Caskey says:

Well-made videos and reliable content. Subscribed.

Siim Land says:

I love tools of Titans as well. Tim did a great job distilling the most practical information in very short and comprehensive chapters.

My Top 7 ideas from the book:
#1 The Small Things Are the Big Things – Naval Admiral William Macraven
#2 Improve Tools At the Top of the Funnel – Noah Kagan
#3 Failure Is Not Durable – Robert Rodriguez
#4 Good by Jocko Willink
#5 Inviting Mara to Tea – Tara Brach
#6 Challenge All Assumptions – Bryan Johnson
#7 It’s Gone – Chade-Meng Tan

Charles Ashen says:
