“Cracking The Coding Interview” Book Review

A lot of guys have been asking me to do a review about Cracking The Coding Interview, and the time has come.

In this video I’ll tell you if you should buy Cracking The Coding Interview and why I consider it one of the best programming books ever written (even though it is above Soft Skills on Amazon).

Here is the book description extracted from Amazon
“I am not a recruiter. I am a software engineer. And as such, I know what it’s like to be asked to whip up brilliant algorithms on the spot and then write flawless code on a whiteboard. I’ve been through this as a candidate and as an interviewer.

Cracking the Coding Interview, 6th Edition is here to help you through this process, teaching you what you need to know and enabling you to perform at your very best. I’ve coached and interviewed hundreds of software engineers. The result is this book.

Learn how to uncover the hints and hidden details in a question, discover how to break down a problem into manageable chunks, develop techniques to unstick yourself when stuck, learn (or re-learn) core computer science concepts, and practice on 189 interview questions and solutions.

These interview questions are real; they are not pulled out of computer science textbooks. They reflect what’s truly being asked at the top companies, so that you can be as prepared as possible. WHAT’S INSIDE?
189 programming interview questions, ranging from the basics to the trickiest algorithm problems.
A walk-through of how to derive each solution, so that you can learn how to get there yourself.
Hints on how to solve each of the 189 questions, just like what you would get in a real interview.
Five proven strategies to tackle algorithm questions, so that you can solve questions you haven’t seen.
Extensive coverage of essential topics, such as big O time, data structures, and core algorithms.
A behind the scenes look at how top companies like Google and Facebook hire developers.
Techniques to prepare for and ace the soft side of the interview: behavioral questions.
For interviewers and companies: details on what makes a good interview question and hiring process.”

Watch this video and find out if you should give this book a shot.

ordering both next week…

Anthony Jarrett says:

you make it sound easy. The book is dense. If I had that much knowledge sloshing around in my head…realistically I’d have people working for ME.

John you should review a book called hackers ethos. it is a very good book.

Cool review, definitely going to check this book out. Aren’t her problems in the book though more geared toward a programmer rather than a coder?

rareș migea says:

you can get the 4th edition of that book for free from here:
you’re welcome

AkaLee says:

I like the shorter reviews

I bought this book this week. 🙂

Norbi says:

Do I need to have a prior knowledge of algorithms and data structures before diving into this book? or does the book teach you everything you need to know from the beginning.

vjness101 says:

Got CTCI and soft skills that I’m working through 🙂

SodaDK says:

I’m reading that book right now 😀

I’ve just finished reading your book. Thanks for good content, it helped me a lot.
Please do a review on Machine Learning/Data science books. 🙂

Edwin I.T. says:

Is it just the big companies (Google, Microsoft, Apple, Facebook) who have coding interviews or is it particularly mandatory for every Programmer ?

Heloá Meneses says:

I love it how you can’t talk about this book without mentioning it competes with yours on Amazon haha
You’re adorable, seriously

Christopher Johnson says:

I love this book though I’m still muddling through it and trying to understand some things in conjunction with Pluralsight.

Tyler Moses says:

Cracking the coding interview is an amazing book. I also highly enjoyed Soft Skills when I listened to it on Audible.
